The last decade has seen the rise of a new group of secular intellectuals: the new atheists. Composed of influential minds like Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris, and Christopher Hitchens, these atheists seek not only to end belief in God, but also respect for religious individuals. Their movement is based on a belief that religion is, in the words of Christopher Hitchens, “violent, irrational, intolerant, allied to racism, tribalism, and bigotry, invested in ignorance and hostile to free inquiry, contemptuous of women and coercive toward children."
But is this harsh judgment true? On October 12th, Christian author and debater, Dinesh D’Souza, and President of American Atheists, David Silverman, will debate the topic “Is Christianity good for America” at the University of Pennsylvania.
Tickets will be available at the box office, opening at 6 pm.
